Collapse recursive (mis)understanding?

Hello Legend. I am a new to the app and have been playing around for a few hours. Regarding this specific forum request, I think I must be misunderstanding how “Collapse Recursive” works. In the Settings > Hotkeys it shows up as Cmd+Shift+. (Mac). And when I use that key sequence, I get a “collapse all” - the entire tree collapses. I would have expected that “recursive” meant that cmd+shift+. would collapse one level each time, so that doing it again would collapse the next level, and so on. So, if i had a tree of bullets nesting, say, 4 deep, then each successive cmd+shift+. would collapse by one level. Am I misunderstanding how “Collapse Recursive” works?

gacharles Yes Collapse recursively works by recursively parsing all of your children nodes and collapsing them from the item where you are standing at the moment. It wont collapse your whole outline, just the item where your cursor is sitting. When you expand it (non recursively) youll notice that youll have to expand each node and its children as they are now collapsed.

So I guess the operative word here is Recursively and I think what you would like is iteratively
