Jay Definitely better than bright red. It is now possible to work without part of my attention being devoted exclusively to the date labels. I thank you for that.
As to whether Laura’s proposal is better than yours… I wouldn’t know. The truth is that when I started using moo.do a couple of years ago, the blue colour of the labels was also quite distracting, but I think I’ve got used to it, and now it’s a bit like I’m expecting it, so I’m a bit conditioned. However, taking a step back, it does seem that the colour of the labels that she proposes can help to concentrate more than the current blue colour, at the price of being less cheerful, less eye-catching.
With regard to date labels, I like them with the letters in the same colour as the background (white), but with a label background that is too light in colour, white letters are not appropriate because they end up making the labels almost ethereal. I guess this is a dilemma that you may have already faced, and ultimately a matter of taste. However, for what it’s worth, I don’t think that label backgrounds should be as light as possible, but just avoid making them too dark so that they don’t attract too much attention, which is what happened with the dark red ones. So, in my opinion, you have some leeway to go back to white lettering but this time on a label background that is not too dark.
I’ve been playing around with various combinations today, including changing the underline colour so that it neither looks too similar to the blue labels nor is invisible when the item is also marked as a star (the yellow star colour is absolutely perfect and I don’t think it should be messed with), but in the end I haven’t come up with a satisfactory solution. However, if I finally find a solution that is satisfactory, I’ll let you know.
