FEATURE/IMPROVEMENT: The iPhone Expand/Collapse buttons, being placed on the right side of the screen, are counterintuitive to their left-side of screen placement in all the desktop apps. While I understand the thought that “there is usually more screen available on the right side of the screen” and probably the design choice to place them there, it is incredibly easy to overlook them when you are used to seeing them on the left side of the screen. I have many times, scrolled through items, reading the left, not seen the E/C icon, then deleted an item because I didn’t realize it contained child items. The user’s focus on ‘meta-information’ for an item (Bullet, Possible Children, or other info) should be all concentrated together. Realizing that this may cause a legacy issue as some people may like the icon for E/C on the right, I propose that there be an option for which side of the screen it will be displayed upon in the iPhone Legend instance options.
FEATURE/IMPROVEMENT: The iPhone Legend needs a was to control it’s font/text size locally. Currently it is slaved to the non-iphone versions (i.e, Legend Windows) and changes with it. A font that is a usable size on Windows/Desktop Legend is far from usable on a smaller screen device such as the iPhone or an iPad. Even an iPad can use a smaller font than an iPhone and should not be locked together. Each Legend device instance should have it’s own font size adjustment and be independent of other devices. Another reason would be that it can be very difficult to select an item’s bullet on the iPhone or collapse a document hierarchy if the font was left smaller from being changed on the Desktop version, leaving you unable to work if you aren’t near a desktop and able to change it back.
FEATURE/IMPROVEMENT: It would be nice to be able to set the font size of the “Document viewer” pane on iOS independently of the main UI font size. It can take a bit of maneuvering to open/close/select documents currently.
FEATURE/IMPROVEMENT: iPads are large enough to potentially support the ability to have Panes. It would be nice to be able to use them there and not be slaved to the Mobile board of only a single pane.
✅ FEATURE/IMPROVEMENT: Currently on iOS, it seems as though the ‘selection area’ for the Collapse/Expand icon in the document viewer is a small square surrounding the icon’s pixels precisely. Instinct is for me to select the left most side of that icon so I don’t select the text when trying to expand an item, but it doesn’t work unless you hit the icon. Perhaps the ‘activation area’ of the expand/collapse in the document viewer could be all the left side of the screen from the icon (since nothing else is ever there), making it much easier to select the expand/collapse icons without needing a much larger font. This could also apply to bullet points and other icons on items.
FEATURE/IMPROVEMENT: It would be nice to be able to create a new document in the iOS version.

In the latest beta I made the full space to the left of document viewer items clickable for collapsing. Does that feel better?

I also increased the line height in the document viewer a bit - does that make it easier to select documents? Making the font settings is something we should absolutely do but will take more work, but this should be an easy quick win for now?

Yes, expanding the ‘active expand/collapse area’ for those icons greatly improves the UX. I no longer feel like I ‘missed’ the expand/collapse icon. Larger fonts in the future specific to the iOS UIs will help with this as well once that can be addressed.

A possibly related iOS Document View issue–I noticed that:

If you select a document, the Newly selected document highlights, but the previously selected document stays highlighted as the Document Viewer slides off-screen. The previously selected document should Deselect first, then the new document highlight second, then the document viewer should slide off screen. A minor quibble, I’m sure, but worth mentioning.
Tied with this: If a document (any item) in the document viewer is selected/highlighted, and you expand or collapse another item in the document viewer, both will be selected, leaving you with two documents selected at once (which shouldn’t ever be possible). The expansion/collapsing click should not highlight an item (since it does not change the currently displayed view).

Hope that made sense. Wording this stuff can be difficult.

Jay In the Android app, the vertical alignment of the expand/collapse icons is now off.
