How do you restore a previous version?

How do you restore a previous version? Somehow it lost a huge portion of my file and I cant seem to restore the version that has this data. All I can do is save a json file?

If it seems to have “randomly” lost a big chunk of file (and you didn’t do anything to delete it.) Try logging out of Legend and back in again to see if the data is back before you start messing with the restore options.

So far - every time I’ve THOUGHT I lost data without knowing how; a log out and log back in fixed it (indicating some kind of sync anomaly.) So I recommend - start there!

The data is gone even with a logout login. i can see it in the version history i just cant restore it?

It looks like there’s some bugs in version history where it’s showing everything as added and even copy is freezing it. I’m working on that now. I’ll get an update out ASAP.

devians As for how it got lost, maybe you completed those items and they would be there if you remove the completed filter? Or maybe you accidentally deleted them and you could find them in the Deleted view? Or did you add those items while offline? Did you move them to another document?

devians The version history bugs are fixed in the latest beta version (https://forum.legendapp.com/d/137-beta-updates/26). It should now be showing an option to restore the items, or you can just copy them and paste them into a document.

I have a feeling (based on what the version history bug was) that the items are just completed, and clearing the completed filter (the red check in the filter box) should show them again.

I don’t know the circumstances where the data was lost sorry.

I switched to the beta but i still dont see how to rollback to a previous version.

devians Do you see the items if you turn off the “Completed” filter or in the Deleted view (click on Outline at the top left for the view options)?

In the Version History there should be buttons to Restore Hunk. If you don’t see that, could you send me a screenshot of what you see? You can hover over my name here and click the … button to send me a direct message to keep it private.

Or you can copy the items in the Version History and paste them into a document.

Jay Is it only possible to restore hunk? thats super confusing, i just want to go back to that version.

The hunks are just empty red boxes with no context, its hard to tell what clicking that button would do. and theres a lot of noise of things that are ‘added’ that… were already there.

devians Hunks that are empty are blank lines that were deleted. We may want to just not show those in version history…

Were you able to find if the items were completed or deleted? If not, can you send me a larger screenshot of what the version history looks like for you?

devians You said earlier that you were seeing the missing items in the version history. But you’re not seeing them now? And are they definitely not there if you disable the completed filter or open the deleted view?

It shows up if i click ‘show all’

this got me curious, i did some looking around. Turns out a completed item (i show completeds) was collapsed and that was hiding a large section of the document. (not just children, a huge block) expanding it and collapsing it showed all the items again.

Ah ok, that makes sense! That’s why it wasn’t showing in the version history. Do you think there’s anything we should do to make clearer when items are collapsed?

I think that means this is solved so I’ll mark it as solved. But please let me know if there’s still a problem.

This was actually a bug, the collapsed section was hiding a huge amount of the document, not just the children of the item.

devians If you collapse the same item again does it still collapse more than it should? Could you send me a screenshot or video showing it?
