Deleting old backups - manually and automatically

Legend’s Drive backups have now consumed about ¾ of my Drive space.

Manually deleting old backups in Drive is a major pain since Google only loads enough files to fill a screen at a time. There are thousands and thousands of backups in there! It’d take me an hour just to scroll-select them.

Does anybody know:

A quick way (in Drive) to selectively delete old backups in bulk?
A setting in Legend that controls how long to keep Drive backups for?
For that matter, a setting controlling how long to keep local backups?

@Jay I’m about to stop receiving email to my Gmail account because of Legend’s backup bloat.

We need some controls around how far back Legend sends backups to Drive to prevent this. I’m at 11GB.

But I need a solution now. I’m content to disable Drive backup and just delete the Legend folder entirely, but I’m concerned about losing attached images, both those that are actual “attachments” in Legend Items and those that are pasted into the HTML of Notes. These appear to be stored in Drive as well. Will they go away if I delete my “do not delete” folder? Where do they get saved if I don’t have Drive sync enabled? Can I move them to the non-drive-sync storage spot before disabling sync?

Jerud I agree that we need some controls for this. I’ll see if I can figure out an easy way to do that.

For now, the Drive structure is that images are stored by document id (looks like -LyYDZwKZojRgHoK7AG5), and the backups are in the Legend Backups folder. So you should be able to just delete the Legend Backups folder?

You could also use Driver’s filtering features (icon in right side of search box) to move some of the latest backups to another folder before deleting the Legend Backups folder?

So, I backed up my drive to an export then deleted the Legend folder. I actually had two folders…probably a result of switching between accounts a while back. This made no impact on my storage allocation (I waited 24 hours to check).

Finally I discovered that GDrive has a separate space for “hidden app files”. It’s accessible via Drive Settings –> Manage Apps. That area included an entry for Legend and while it didn’t tell me how big it was, it took a real long time to clear it out, and now 24h later, those 11GB of storage are freed up.

So my short-term problem is resolved.

This post stills stands as a feature request for more controls around GDrive backup, in particular how far back to keep those backups.

But I have to ask if you can explain how 11GB of files got ferreted away as “hidden app files” in my Drive and attributed to Legend. Bug? Edge case resulting from beta use and too much experimentation? I think it’s worth at least asking the question.
