Un-mirror item?

I want to un-mirror items, but I can’t figure out how to do that…
Checked the Help file but there’s nothing.

So… Just deleting one of the items then? 🤐

An option to “break the mirror” wouldn’t be bad i.m.o. … 🙂

I agree - there are times when it would be nice to have an option to “Turn this mirrored instance into a copy”. (ie - break the mirror / remove the link).

But as you note; yes, the way to “break” the mirror is to delete it.
When you delete a mirrored item; you’ll get a pop up asking if you want to delete:
THIS ITEM - which will delete only the instance you have selected and leave all others intact.
ALL ITEMS - which will delete ALL the instances of the item
CANCEL - close the dialog without doing anything

An option to stop mirroring items (“Turn this mirrored instance into a copy” - ie - break the mirror / remove the link) would be convenient!

The workaround is to open the original and then drag a copy before deleting the mirror, but it would be a nice convenience, though I think there’s plenty of other stuff to prioritize first.

Hrm, I think I messed this up! I was trying to merge your “Help” post into your feature request post… but it merged to the help instead. 🙁

Hi! So as I understand, there is no solution for this issue to this day?

I was trying to “simulate” a template by using a mirrored template which I would have duplicated and un-mirrored but that does not work!

I even tried a simple copy/paste operation but Legend automatically converts it to a link! I really feel like I’m trying to remove a piece of 2 sided tape stuck to my finger and whatever I try to do it ends up on the other hand over and over again.. 😵🤯

dfrigon there is no built-in feature that handles this right now. And yes mirrors can be real sticky! They are a pretty new feature to the app in general so don’t have a full feature-set yet.

As a workaround, you could try copy/pasting into various other apps to see if they “process” the items in a way that lets you strip the mirror off and then copy/paste back to Legend. Apple Notes, I seem to recall, played relatively well with Legend (But I’m not on Mac anymore to test with mirrors). @LauraH has posted in the past (I think) that she uses Excel as an intermediary for some of her workflows. I know these aren’t great options but if you really “have to”, it might help.

@Jay Did you notice this feature request?

I know there’s lots of stuff calling for your attention, but this seems like a very small usability tweak that could drastically improve the “mirrored items” experience. 🙂

I’m giving Legend a new try and I’m a bit disappointed that this didn’t get sorted out yet. 🙁

@they86 - Several features have been added since this initial feature request which really help improve the MOVE and COPY functions in Legend, possibly making this request to “un-mirror” less necessary?

The [[ menu now has options to copy and mirror (in addition to the move that was present before.).
For my use at least, this has made templates super easy. In general, I have not found any cases where I wanted to “convert a mirror to a copy” since the new features were implemented.

So - maybe give the new features a try and see if they meet your need?

Hello @LauraH . I have difficulty understanding why an “un-mirror” feature would NOT be necessary…

It just doesn’t make sense that you can link two items together, but cannot unlink them if you change your mind.
The workaround to copy the item, paste it and then delete the original mirrored one is just too tedious to really be taken seriously at all as a “solution”.

In addition I think the current item you’re looking at should have the green letters… Not the one you’re not looking at. 🙂

When I delete a mirrored item I get the following dialog. Maybe there should be an extra button ‘UN-MIRROR ITEM’ which just breaks the mirror link and keeping the items as copies of the mirror?
