Sync issues

The past couple days I’ve been having issues with items from my iPhone 14 not showing up on my MacBook.
When I close and reopen the iOS app it erases the things I’d written on my phone.
I love the app but if I can’t trust it I can’t use it.
Any advice on correcting this?

It’s possible that you’re having the same issue I’ve had….someone else just mentioned it as well….

If you open Legend on iOS/mobile and leave it open after making some changes, it will stop syncing somewhere between a few hours and and a few days.

If, while it has stopped, you make changes to your data, and assume it is saving them you will be incorrect. If you go and make changes on your PC (or other non-mobile platform), they will sync, and seemingly delete the data you entered on mobile (because it never synched.

This bug has yet to be addressed, so now I make it a habit to enter data on iOS/mobile, scroll up (forcing a sync?) then I force quit Legend (so it cannot stop synching on it’s own). Since I started doing that I have stopped having sync issues that involve iOS.

That’s been my workaround.

@SamMarrocco Have you run into a situation where the notes don’t load until you re-install the app?

Yonz reinstallation of the app has never had any effect on data synching. The app stops syncing when left running in the background at some point and never recovers. Force-quitting the app then restarting cause a fresh sync to happen, which syncs the data from the iOS device, ever writing changes you may have made from another device in the meantime.

Reinstalling has been pointless since the last update was nearly 10 months ago, and reinstalls on macOS frequently failed, forcing manual app deletion.

SamMarrocco thanks for your feedback Sam, I wasn’t planning on adding new features but now it seems we may need to add versioning so that customers can roll back to a previous state. I’ll circle back after discussing with the team. We will try to reproduce & fix the sync bug ASAP and discuss versioning timelines next month.

Sync Update & Next Steps

We know sync reliability is critical, and a few of you have run into conflicts between iOS and other devices. Here’s what we’re doing:

Recover your notes → You can restore from hourly version history snapshots if something goes missing.

Help us debug → Please reach out if you can reproduce the issue. We’re especially investigating iOS ↔ web conflicts, though in most cases syncing works as expected.
Big upgrade coming → On September 30 we’ll roll out legendState v3, a major update designed to make sync rock-solid.

⚠️ Potential gap: We’ve seen reports that iOS may not always save backups. If you notice no versions available after writing on iOS, please let us know — that info will help us fix this faster.

Also, check with Jay. I have directly emailed him reproduction steps for these types of things, including items regarding sync failings on iOS/iPhone vs. desktop Windows.

I am not very confident that legendState (on the server side of things) is the sole source of sync issues with iOS.
I am relatively certain that the synching task is crashing on iPhone/iOS Legend when the app is left running in the background for long periods of time (i.e. several days), during which changes are made to your documents on other platforms.

You are correct….iOS does not always save backups.
