I’m a terrible speller and frequently rely on a spell checker. I believe it should be a necessity for any note taking platform.

I agree for the need for spell check. I’m not too bad of a typist but trying to find a typo amongst all my notes is not easy.

I asked about this a long time ago and @Jay said that since Legend (then Moodo) takes over the right-click-ability of the app (instead of letting the browser control it), means that spell check isn’t available via the browser. At least that is what I remember him saying. But I wish there was someway to get spell check set up, at least for the desktop apps, if not for the browser and mobile, too.

I can’t express how beneficial this would be! I frequently copy/paste my notes from Legend into another app (slack, google docs, etc) and it ends up being littered with typos. I agree any notetaking app should have a spell checker or at least allow a 3rd party to read the screen (eg. Grammarly). I’d love to see this work in the browser or at least in the desktop app.

YES!

I consider this a critical Data Integrity feature, not just a “nice to have”. A text search is only reliable if the text we enter is consistent. Misspellings mean missed items in filters and searches. I currently have a sticky “E” key and have found several items that slipped through the cracks because I filtered for a specific word but the text of the item was missing an ‘e’.

I do recall Jay saying there were technical obstacles but I’d love for him revisit the question (and let us know) in case anything has changed. Integrated spellcheck is in seemingly everything now, it’s a little hard to accept that it’s not possible. Maybe a Grammarly integration as hickeybrennan mentions? Even if it takes some trouble on the user’s part to set up, it’d be worthwhile.

I just copy-pasted some Legend items into a Word doc for sending to a coworker, and the whole page just lit up with red squiggles. I’m a good speller but a less-good typist and that gets worse when tired and bleary-eyeed. Even though I waste a lot of time keeping my Legend entries as tidy as I can (for my visual enjoyment) I evidently miss a LOT.

Consider this my vote for a synchronized spell checker.
But–it should have the ability to add custom words. I use a lot of abbreviations and tech terms that are always being changed into non-sensical terms (to me, at least). The synchronization of the spell checker should be across all my Legend Apps/devices, so I don’t have to add them locally to each device.

SamMarrocco a good point, I don’t have a whole LOT of regular exceptions, but the few I do have (one of which is my fscking name) get used very often. Not being able to “add to dictionary” would definitely undermine the value of an integrated spellcheck…though I’m not sure it would be enough to make me disable the feature as a result. In other words, I still think I’d rather have it even if it couldn’t handle exceptions. Similarly, if the exceptions worked but didn’t synchronize, I could get over that.
