Better Document Management (empty trash)

I just got the notification from Google that I’m running out of space.
Legend isn’t the biggest problem I have – but it sure ain’t the smallest either.

I have 45 Legend documents in my Trash, from years of experimentation and false starts. I’d love to purge those. I’d also like a way to find any uploaded Gdocs that are no longer connected to a non-Trash Legend document, so I can review/purge those. I likely have a few hundred GB worth of .pdfs loaded up there, which I simply can’t identify.
I also wouldn’t mind better/different control over backup frequency and penetration. Right now I appear to have 60 days’ worth of hourly backups…that is much more granularity than I need for 2 months ago.

It’d be slick if the hourly backups could get rolled up into dailies after, say, a week. And then go to monthlies after 1 month. 2 months is a pretty good range for me – I do sometimes want those older backups. But never down to the hour. I imagine there are some folks who would like a longer history, and maybe others who don’t want more than a week.

More control over this would be a welcome addition.

Legend doesn’t store in your Drive anymore, not like the old version of Moo.do from years ago. If those are years old from the old backend, they’re useless now anyway so you can delete them.

The new backend database will do revision history in a different way - saving each change into the database rather than diffing full backups. So since we’ll be able to be 100% sure that we have every change saved, we’ll likely reduce the frequency of the Drive backups to daily. And I agree that it would be great to have an automatic purging - that’s on the todo list for after the backend change.

Jay So I’ve got “_Moo.do Files (Do not delete)” which contains “Legend Backups” (not updated since 8 Nov 2021) and numerous gibberish folders containing images I’ve uploaded. It sounds like you’re saying I can delete the “legend backups” folder but I do need to leave the others intact, right?

I note also your use of future tense regarding revision history and backups…is there no Drive backup currently? Just local ones? Is the “drive backup” setting just a dummy right now?

Backup / GDrive space aside, I would still like a way to delete old docs out of the Trash in the Overview drawer. If all my docs are actually just nodes in one big database, does that mean I’m re-downloading all that trash every time I do a full logout/login? I’ve pruned a lot of junk from there and would like to not be downloading it every time, especially on mobile. Logout/in is something I do somewhat regularly due to beta testing and clearing up various misbehaviors, especially with Gcal.

The gibberish folders match the ID of the documents they’re in, and those need to stay there if you still have the files attached to documents. You can delete all of the backups if you like. They’re also backed up in Legend’s cloud, which is what’s used for the Version History - the Drive backups are just to have them in an extra place if you want.

The reason we haven’t added full deletion is with the current database structure, there’s no way to sync that the document was deleted. That will be fixed by the new structure so I’m just putting off that feature until it’s easier. And although I definitely see how it’s annoying to have a full trash, it doesn’t really affect anything other than how it looks, because:

Trashed documents don’t download their items at all. The only thing that syncs is the document name and that it’s trashed. So the full login skips everything with trashed documents except the few bytes of the name and metadata.

Sounds like the most pressing “reason” to add ‘empty trash’ is an aesthetic one, not functional. So that makes it pretty low priority. I appreciate your reassurances about data use.
