It’s not possible to delete a document that has a password because it was shared, even if it’s not shared anymore. When logging out and back in, the document comes out of the trash and goes back into “Encrypted Documents”.
It seems like Legend always wants to unlock passworded documents that are in the Trash, by taking them out again. I can’t find a way to remove the password.
- Log in to Legend using a web browser.
- In the overview sidebar, create two new documents and name them.
- Right-click on the first one, choose “Share”, and give it a password. Don’t share it with anyone.
- Right-click on both documents and choose “Delete”. Note that they both go into the Trash.
- Log out, then log back in again.
Expected result: both documents are still in the Trash.
Actual result: the one with the password is no longer in the Trash, but shows as a locked document in the “Encrypted Documents” section.
- Click on the document in “Encrypted Documents”, and enter the requested password.
Expected result: The document will be unlocked and show in the “Documents” section.
Actual result: The document still shows in the “Encrypted Documents” section, and now also in the Trash.
- Click on the document in the “Encrypted Documents” section, and enter the requested password.
Expected result: hard to say, but probably to show in the “Documents” section.
Actual result: Nothing happens.
- Click on the document in the Trash, and choose to undelete it.
Result: The document is removed from the Trash, and from “Encrypted Documents”, and shows in “Documents”. It can now be deleted again, but will show up once more after logging out and back in.
In a similar case using the desktop app, if I reset the app in step 5 by deleting the “Legend” folder and logging in again, the same thing happens - the document is no longer in the Trash. But if I put the old “Legend” folder back again, it’s still in the Trash - even though in the browser, it isn’t. It seems that as long as the document is unlocked, it can be in the Trash, but if it gets locked, it can’t be.
I have another document that I was testing with, and set a password on it. I don’t remember what the password was, it was just a temporary test. While the document was unlocked, I deleted it, and it went in the trash. Now, if I log out and back in, it comes out of the Trash and shows in “Encrypted Documents”. I’m not able to delete it anymore, because I don’t know the password.
Also, in the browser or after I reset the desktop app, the number of items in the trash is 29, while in the non-reset desktop app it’s 37, where several of the trashed documents are duplicates. These duplicates are the ones that show up in the “Select Document” menu when I do “Export Data”, and cause Legend to crash, see Crashes caused by recently-deleted documents still showing up in Export list.
One more thing: if someone shares a document with me, and I don’t want to see it anymore, I can’t get rid of it. It shows up in “Encrypted Documents”, and I have to ask the person who shared it with me to remove me from the sharing. If they don’t answer, or they’ve forgotten the password, I’m stuck with it forever. If they do know the password, and remove me and delete the document, it may or may not show up in my Trash. I could also ask them to change my permission from “write” to “admin”, but that doesn’t work. If they choose “admin” from the pop-up menu, it just goes back to “write”.
