Today (August 5, 2021) I downloaded the new Legend Mac OS app and made a new account. I tried to set a password to encrypt remote data (under the Security option, i.e. not local data) and when I paste my password in to the two fields & proceed to encrypt, I get the three dots to indicate the operation is progressing - but this never seems to end. If I click out of the Settings modal then it appears that nothing changed, i.e. I can attempt this again.
