Repeating tasks do not stay in calendar view after being marked as completed

Hello,

I love the app. One this that has been bothering me in the app though is that I have a bunch of daily repeating things that I need to do and when I mark those tasks complete they disappear from my calendar view, as if they were never there. The tasks that are NOT repeated (and are specific to a certain day) do stay in the calendar.

Is there something that I am missing in setting or is this a bug or a by design feature?..

This issue has been on my feature list for a while, too.

I would like to have a record that I completed my tasks, even if they are repeated daily (did I really wash the dishes today? 😉). In other outliner/task apps that I’ve used, there is often an option to either leave a completed version of the task in place or just erase the completed one like Legend does now.

If making this an either/or option is too complicated, I would like to just have the completed versions stay on my calendar/list which is the opposite of what is happening now. At least that way I have a record that I did something today!

Yep, exactly my thoughts 🙂 Also, I feel that this is a bit inconsistent that some tasks stay in the calendar and some disappear. For me here is a whole day planned out and it should not really matter if task is repeated or not. Repeating for me is mostly a shortcut for not writing down all the same things that I need to do every day.

100% agree - this has been on my list of frustrations with Legend for a long time also.

I’m mostly a mom at home - 90% of my tasks are repeating! I’d like to see the record of them. It would also be really nice to be able to look back at the calendar and see when I last did a repeating task; not just when it’s next due.

That is a great point. We do have a record of all of the completion dates so it should be fairly straightforward to make the calendar views show the completed dates. I’ll take a look into that.

One suggestion: a task to be associated with multiple calendar events. Real-life scenario: completing a task often happens in more than one sitting… so it can be assigned multiple calendar slots.

I’ve seen this approach in Mindmesh and it works very well.

I like the way the “Things” app handles the repeating tasks.
It has one “Master Copy” of each repeating item which is editable; but not completable. It is indicated by a repeat icon at the start of the item and either the date the item will next generate the new task or says “waiting” to indicate that the previous instance of the task has not yet been checked off.

Edits to that “Master Copy” will perpetuate to all future instances.
When the new task is generated, it becomes a stand alone task with no link to the “Master copy” (other than the text being the same of course) - you can add notes, make changes to THAT INSTANCE, even move it to a different location and it will be checked off as an individual task, remain in the completed view, etc.

I would love to see that in Legend.
