I’m not certain of the dates but in the first half (?) of last year there were changes that impacted Board-saving. Many of us lost Boards, had old ones resurrect, and similar shenanigans. Basically, when your account transitioned from old-way to new-way, things happened – but then it was fine. I know, very technical explanation! I’m not a software guy…
Given that you were on hiatus for a while you may have bridged that time.
I hear you on Boards & workflows; I have a couple custom-filtered boards that took a lot of testing to get tuned in and they are no fun to recreate. Since there’s no board backups, I copy/paste the filter definition into the top item of each Board so the full text is visible (my Panes are generally too narrow to read filter text) and screenshot them all for reference when I need to rebuild. Which hasn’t been for a while now. Like carrying an umbrella to keep it from raining.
I suggest doing that with whatever good Boards you have left, then do a full logout everywhere, uninstall the app everywhere, then reinstall and log back in. You’ll likely see some craziness when you get back in, but whatever you do from there forward should stick.
