Items displaying multiple times

So I love Legend. It’s changed the way I get work done and is my new favorite way of getting things done. But right now, I only feel confident using it on my desktop. When I’ve used the mobile app on both iPhone and iPad, what I see in my documents is inconsistent with what I see on desktop. Items that I deleted a LONG time ago still show up. Yesterday, I saw one item repeat all the way down the page for no reason. Another time, the top header didn’t appear because my cursor was there when it synced (the header re-appeared when I moved the cursor). The app says that it’s in sync, but to actually get it to parity with what I have on the web version, I’ve had to actually delete and reinstall the app. Needless to say, this doesn’t inspire confidence. And I actually fear data corruption just from using the mobile apps. Is this just me? If not, is there a plan or timeline for getting the mobile app to at least a point where people can feel confident in using it on a daily basis?

We’ve fixed some sync issues in the desktop apps over the past few weeks, but have not updated the mobile app with them yet. We will do that this week, which should fix all of the sync issues. But on the bright side, the sync issues are not causing lost data, just the app not displaying them. For now you can also sign out and back in to clear the local state and reset back to the synced state.

Not sure if I should report this here, or in the Bug Reports. I’ve just started using the iOS app (still called Moo.do) and had the problem where an item was repeating itself over and over as I scrolled down the page. It was mentioned in this post. Is it a known issue? Later I changed the settings to “use beta version”, will that help? [edit: no, it doesn’t help]

I have to make a transatlantic trip this week, and I’ve been planning it with Legend. I bought a new phone so I could run the app (and the others one needs for flying these days), and have my notes in my pocket as well. But today I was out doing errands and hit this bug, and was no longer able to use the app (or finish my errands). I’ve noticed some other bugs too. I’m concerned that I can’t really trust it.

Also, is there a Help file or instructions for it? I can’t seem to find it. I’d like to know, for example, whether you can share a particular pane with the web/desktop app, so that expansion states of items will be synchronized. Or does it maybe just have its own separate pane?

I have noticed the item-repeating issue a few times. Not often. Each time I closed the mobile app and restarted it, and the problem did not recur. I’m not on beta.

Thanks David, I’ll try that if it happens again. I thought I’d have to sign out and sign in again, and I didn’t have my passwords with me. I was also just afraid to touch it any further, I didn’t know whether it was messing up the actual document.

I only use it on mobile lightly (mostly I use the desktop app), but I’ve never had to sign out/in again on the mobile app.

As far as I know, panes don’t share between mobile and desktop.

If an item repeats itself over and over it’s a rendering bug, and restarting the app would fix it. It is not messing up the document. Can you DM me your email address (see Private Discussions on the left) and I’ll see if an errors appeared in your account which would cause that.

In your desktop app you should have a board named Mobile. That’s the board the mobile app uses, so you can modify it as you like from the desktop version. We’ll add support for switching between all boards some time, but for now that’s the best way to sync panes between them.

@DavidP I believe those sync issues should be fixed now in the latest version. But please let me know if it’s still happening!

About ten minutes into my seven-hour flight, the app went haywire repeating things again. I restarted it, but because there was no Internet, it didn’t load again. At the moment I don’t have cellular data where I am, so I can’t really use it on mobile. For now I’ve gone back to using Carbon Fin Outliner on the phone, and importing/exporting OPML files when I go out.

Thanks for letting me know about the Mobile board, that will be helpful. It would be good to add some info about using the mobile app to the help file, I don’t see anything about it. I guess it’s mostly self-explanatory, but it took me some playing around before I could figure out the basics.

Jeff Oh, the mobile app is supposed to work offline. I’ll take a look at that too.

After it did the thing of repeating the one item while scrolling, I quit the app by double-clicking the “home” button and swiping up on it. Then when I restarted the app, there was a white screen with an error message and it didn’t load my documents. Sorry, I don’t remember what it said. If I try the same thing now, without the repeating bug, it does seem to reload. Maybe the app’s version gets corrupted as part of the repeating bug, and then it needs to reload from the cloud?

Jeff I’ve got both of these issues (items repeating and iOS not working offline) fixed but it’s late at night here so I’ll test some more in the morning and release an update tomorrow.

Ooh, glad to see these two issues are getting done, I have both of them!
The item repeating during scroll is really aggravating. Definitely not the only issue with iOS app but a great place to start.
