FWIW I did not mean this to be about adding features to the app itself.
What’s nice about the demo account is how it self-resets for every user and can be accessed without any Legend account at all. Thus, prospective users can check it out, as well as current users who are close to their Pane limit.
It would, however, be nice if after demoing a workflow a user could “import” it to their account to adopt it (rather than rebuilding it by hand from the example). So importing a shared/template board/doc adds value – but need not be in place for initial implementation. I think the very most important part is getting examples out there both for prospective and current users, even if there isn’t a smooth path (at first) for bringing those examples in.
Eik I imagined this as making a copy of your workflow along with a dummy document, not actually making any of your private content public beyond how your board works. I presumed this would be a non-issue w.r.t privacy.
I think my suggestion is the shortest path to getting examples out there, but is still far from being “easy” – the burden is on the share-er to do several time-consuming things in the name of supporting Legend:
- Clean up your boards/workflows so they are consistent and clear enough to explain to a new Legend user
- Populate a document with enough, and varied-enough, dummy items to demonstrate your workflows
- Write up a blog post that clearly and succinctly explains how you use the workflow.
I’d like to emphasize that I believe step 2 is the most underrated part but is critical to effectiveness. Dumping generic tasks like “project 1” and “task A” is certainly not wrong but Legend is a challenging thing to learn and if your workflows are especially “clever” it can be super hard for an outsider to wrap their head around what’s happening. Using relatable example data can really help with this, such as an imagined house-building project that appears to be halfway done, so users can see how the finished parts, the in-process parts, and the upcoming parts are all handled.
