Two things that might be relevant, or might just be specific to my setup:
Clicking to “restore” does not resize the window down to its previous size. But it makes the window resizeable using the mouse. The size is initially the same.
Calendar view never displays completely in one view — there is always a horizontal scrollbar, no matter the size of the window. So, e.g., a bit of the numbered days on the right-hand side are not visible unless I scroll just a bit to the right. Resizing the window up/down makes no difference.
