I like the new icons - and I also like that I don’t have to look at them 😄 The hiding gives a cleaner appearance.
I don’t know if the styling has changed, but visually, I find that when headings are collapsed, the line spacing between them seems too big:
It doesn’t look bad when they’re expanded though. I guess maybe it’s tricky to have them adust based on what’s above them. I noticed this case, where the spacing is inconsistent. The space above “Subsection One” is noticeably smaller than the space above “Subsection Two” (it’s the same in List view too):
And there’s still this, where zooming in on level-two or smaller headings, set manually with ## or ### etc., are much larger than level-one headings or normal titles:
So far though, I haven’t found a situation where I need to use manually-set heading levels. I just use #, and let Legend take care of it.
I can understand LauraH’s comment that it might be nice if a heading size was based on the last one above it, rather than the absolute indent level. But I don’t think I’d be happy if the default was “The first heading in the branch should be a “h1” heading”. I wouldn’t want H1 headings to show up inside another H1, as shown. On the other hand, I never put non-heading content on the same level as headings, nevermind indent headings underneath non-headings, so I guess it’s moot for me. And if my purpose is to designate “actionable” stuff, I use tasks and subtasks. I know you can’t “Group By” tasks, but I actually have no idea how to use “Group By”…
Maybe there’s still a need to separate the two functions, like Andrew commented above: headings, that mainly indicate sections and subsections of a document, and could generate a table of contents - which may be more important when Legend moves to the “one big document” sort of model, though I don’t know how that’s going to work - and projects, that are more of a “task manager” feature, that are actionable items with subtasks. Or maybe not, if the same mechanism can work for either one. But mixing both usages in the same document is confusing to me. Like if the “Group By” view or the auto-complete “Move” menu is populated with both your document/section headings and your action-item projects, mixed together. But I don’t have a very good sense of how other people use Legend.
