Basically I don’t know what I’m looking at. What are the rules, what’s going on? It’s something like “show me items that must have all these terms, but the terms can be either in themselves or their parents, and show me the whole hierarchy, plus the matched items’ children, even if the children don’t match, except not if they were collapsed.” But that’s probably not exactly right. It’s not what I expected - I guess I thought I’d just see all the items that matched, and none that didn’t - kind of like the global search, which I’ve used more often. Not that that necessarily makes any sense, I just sort of imagined it would be like that.
Commentary on the video:
- The first thing I do is filter on “four”. I’m not sure why I see “five” in the third group. I just saw a “collapse matches of filters” setting mentioned above, maybe that’s it. I’ll try that next.
- Then I make it “four five”. But I don’t see any fours or fives now, only threes. What?
- I click the X to try to clear the box, but it only deletes “four” and leaves “five”. ??
- I try “four or five”, but now I’m missing the “five” in the last group.
- Clicking the X leaves just the “or” behind, and I have a hard time getting rid of it, X doesn’t work.
- With “one two three four five”, the result looks the same as “four five”. Ok, I guess?
- I try to place the cursor at the end of the filter text, but it plays a game of whack-a-mole with me, with the box changing its size when the mouse pointer gets near it.
- Then I click X to clear it, but it leaves behind “two four” (not shown in the video, it got cut off). It seems like X only deletes every other term or something?
- One other thing, I felt like I didn’t need to be looking at the box of icons all the time, since I wasn’t using them. I wanted to close or collapse it, because it was getting in the way.

- With “four”, I don’t see “five” now, it’s collapsed, which makes more sense, with “collapse matches” on.
- With “four five”, now I do see the “four” and “five” in the two of them that match. So “collapse matches” seems to also expand things differently. In the second group, the “five” is expanded, but I expected it to be collapsed because its children don’t match.
- With “four or five”, now the “five” is missing in the third group, even though it should match.
- With “one two three four five”, now the two matching ones are expanded, not collapsed.
No idea what parts of this are bugs, and what are me not having a clue. I kind of felt like I was in one of those movie scenes where someone gets into an enemy spaceship to escape, and has to figure out how to fly it. Somehow they always do, except I’m a deer, so I just stand there.
