"Headings Anywhere in Hierarchy" - odd behavior...

If I turn on “Show Headings from Anywhere in Hierarchy”… I’m getting an odd behavior where the level I’m zoomed into shows (with the headings under it) instead of showing only those within the zoom level. This is not my expected behavior of this setting.
Left pane - group by heading, “Show anywhere…” OFF
Right Pane - group by heading, “Show anywhere…” ON <— having the PARENT now appear is not at all the expected behavior.

Agreed, the current zoom level should definitely “cap” the scope of the “from anywhere” option. The implication is “from anywhere within the current zoom scope”.

Showing items from beyond the current zoom scope completely obviates the point of zooming in the first place. If you wanted to see stuff from above your zoom level, you wouldn’t be zoomed there, now would you?

I still think it’s totally weird that this is an option and not the default. The option should really be named “Show only top-level Headings/Projects”.

A little confused by your “totally weird..” comment. It seems you might have the understanding backwards?
Show only top level headings/projects IS the default.
To see a list that includes any sub projects requires turning on the “Show anywhere…” toggle.

LauraH yeah that’s what I mean, I think it’s weird that you have to toggle ON showing items from everywhere, since that seems like the less-restrictive option, and I would expect an “option” to be more restrictive, not less. That said, I DO generally use the current default (top level only), so I guess in terms of frequency it does make sense. The situation is kind of like the way the “hide completes” filter is “backwards” from all the others. Its inconsistent but more convenient. Maybe I should just keep these thoughts to myself 😅

The wording of this button has always gotten me flustered, even though I “know what it does” – I have to just not-read the text on it. It doesn’t really show/hide the headings/projects; it controls which ones are formed into groups. So it’s more explicitly “Groups from all headings” vs. “Groups from TL headings”.
