  • Anybody running multiple windows of the desktop app (windows 10)?

I’m playing with using multiple virtual desktops and being able to open a second “window” of legend would play very nicely with that. But the usual trick for opening multiple windows of a single app (shift+click on the app icon) doesn’t work. I’m not savvy enough to think of a workaround…anybody done this?

Jerud Yes - I use this all the time on Windows. (Though not across multiple virtual desktops… just across multiple monitors…)
Jay implemented support for multiple instances of Legend open at the same time awhile back, but I kept forgetting how to activate it. (I finally put a sticky note on my monitor base!!)
On Mac, the command is: shift+CMD+N
Windows is similar… but I forget the specifics.. and my monitor sticky note is on my work PC. 😛.

Regardless the “New Window” command can be clicked from the File Menu in Legend.

      LauraH Kinda embarrassed, but THANKS!

It never even occurred to me to try the File menu…apps have been moving away from those standard menus so hard recently, I’ve apparently forgotten they exist, or what is supposed to be in them!

I feel like I must be overlooking it somewhere, but can someone tell me where this “File Menu” is in Legend Windows Native for opening a second Legend instance? I’ll be darned if I can find it.

SamMarrocco the windows app hides its menu bar by default. You can toggle its visibility by pressing Alt.

There are a few places on the screen that won’t let this work if they have the focus, so if nothing’s happening, click somewhere and try again…!

        Thanks Jerud.
How the heck did I not know this? 🙂

Too bad you can’t drag & drop between the multiple instances, but I suspect that’s a security limitation of the browser-based electron/web foundations. Every organizer that used them has the same limitation, which a truly native application does not. Still pretty useful.

I think it could potentially be possible to support drag/drop between instances. I’ll investigate that, but no promises 😂.

Ctrl + Shift + N should work for opening another window - does that work for you?

Yes, CTRL-SHIFT-N works, but I was more concerned that I couldn’t find the darned menu item 🙂

SamMarrocco You have to click either in a header of a pane or in the content of a pnae and then press Alt.. Otherwise the menu doesnt com eup

Jay Somebody suggested on other threads that it does work by keeping a window focus in one board and then another window focused in another board. It works wonders for me to process email when I put 2 windows of legend in a vertical monitor… it took away the need for having vertical panes.
But I havent been able to make it work to drag an item from one window to the other

I didn’t realize it was possible to have two windows open to different boards.

I don’t think it’s possible to drag and drop between windows.
