The problem persists for me when I am using the Windows app with the beta test option disabled. It does not occur when accessing via a web browser, but then I can’t use email functionality so, while not a data loss issue, that makes it more urgent.

For clarity sake, I wanted to let you know that all my testing (and the bug-related messages of mine you may be merging into another thread) were not using the beta version. I’ve only been using the release version for everything so far. In case it matters.

Accessing via web browser instead of the Windows app, I moved the boards that were in folders out of the folders. I later closed that window and when I reopened via web browser, the boards briefly appeared in the new location outside of the folder but then within a couple seconds were automatically moved back into the original folders. In the Windows app, the boards in folders are still not shown.

Edit: I was able to clone the boards in the folders, with the new clones being at the top level. Those new boards were then properly saved, shown when reloading the web app and accessible in the Windows app.

Perhaps related to the new release (I haven’t seen this happen before): Unable to copy and paste in the Windows app. I will highlight and copy several lines but only the first two will paste if they are not on the same level. I can copy more than two if within the same level. Not an issue on the web app.

I have gone back to the stable version both in web browser and desktop app and the problem doesn’t occur there. It doesn’t seem to be a data issue, but just a display issue that the most recent beta is failing to manage correctly board folders.

I have switched back to stable until the problem is resolved as I can’t work without all my boards avaiable.

Sorry about that! It seems to be an issue with board folders I didn’t find in testing, but the beta is using separate data for boards so it won’t break anything. Going back to stable is the way to go, and I’ll release an update to fix the beta soon.

I just released a new beta update that fixes this.

Sorry again! I don’t use folders much myself so testing that escaped me. The code that checks whether or not a board is a folder didn’t work right with the new data format so it was treating them as non-folders and not displaying their child boards. I’ll be much more thorough with testing as I’m moving into upgrading the document/item sync.

It’s set up to migrate from the stable boards state but not overwrite it, and the error with folders just a display issue and not a data issue, so the previous errors won’t have broken anything.

Jay While my board folders and contained boards are back, a couple contained boards were in a different order and when I try to reorder them they are either not moving or ending up in a different position than intended. I can reorder top level boards fine.

@Jay I just lost all my boards ad folders. I was switching back to the beta to try it again (it was working fine on the stable version)
I normally use the mobile version and the web app version in my phone (because they constantly crash I keep both open), the desktop app version and sometimes the web app in the browser.

I only showing 2 boards called Boards. Which I think were the ones that were created when this bug first manifested itself and in the beta it was opening blank and only asking me to open a new board.

Before this happened when you fixed the bug, I was seeing that upon starting Legend up it would show this set of boards briefly before then being replaced for my standard set of boards and folders.

I have tried logging into an incognito session and now even in the incognito I have lost my boards!!!
It would seem that there were two sets of boards active and the second one has replaced the original one.
Please help I don’t want to reconstruct all my boards from memory, as there is no way to backup the boards yet

I can’t continue waiting for a solution on data loss. I am going to have to rebuild all my boards from memory. Boards should be somehow backed up (whether independently or dependently on the main data file) but we should be able to store a copy of the boards and be able to restore them on demmand.

This is a totally separate feature request but yes, I completely agree and the above illustrates perfectly just one reason such a feature would be valuable.

I’m very sorry @Jorge for not getting back to you sooner! It’s very strange, it shouldn’t be possible for boards to delete themselves like that. Were the boards missing in both stable and beta versions?

I’ve been working on a full rewrite of the sync system, which is almost done now, and I’m just working on finalizing edge cases. Once it’s done, we’ll run on it ourselves for a few days to really stress test it before releasing it to beta. I’m hoping it will be ready to test before the end of the year.

As opposed to previous backend plans I’d shared, this is an upgrade on top of the existing structure so it won’t require any migration and everything will work the same, except much more stable. There will be one major new feature though - the desktop app will save everything to files, including boards and settings, so you’ll be able to back them up.
