Thanks for the update Jay, and sorry to hear about your setbacks. “When it rains, it pours” eh?

I switched to Stable _1month ago due to board sync issues in Beta which I assume were related to these upgrades. Today I tried to switch back to Beta to test a bug and found myself looking at a completely blank setup; no boards at all. Sync wasn’t that disconnected when I had switched away from Beta so that was briefly alarming. But everything was intact when I went back to Stable.

It might have been cleaner to announce to the beta group that sync would be compromised until the fix was fully implemented and asked us to all just switch to Stable until that was ready. Since you keep the gap between Beta and Stable pretty tight, that wouldn’t have created any real difficulty for us, would save the collective stress of suddenly-missing boards, and spare you the bug reports and forum noise associated with it.

Looking forward to the new sync system.

Nice to have you back Jay Sorry about all the bumps in your trip.
Today I almost threw the monitor to the floor!!! I had spent hours reconstructing my boards in the desktop app from memory since I lost them back in December. As I had reported by mailbird app (which is running in stable) had a different set of boards than my desktop (which runs in beta). Unfortuantely I use beta mostly so I reconstructed my boards in the beta version.

Today all of those newly reconstructed boards were blown up and I was left seeing at some of the boards that were in the mailbird stable version.

The stable version had a bunch of boards called “Board” and as far as I could tell all of them were in the default (create a board state). So foolish me I decided to set up 2 boards with the minimum settings I needed to e able to drag emails into my outlines easily and deleted all the reset of the boards. None of the new boards I had created in the desktop beta appeared in the mailbird stable version, so foolish me decided to delete all those empty Boards and to my demise when I went back to the desktop beta… all my work recreating boards was blown off!!!! All the boards had been deleted and now I could see a couple that were coming from the mailbird beta.

I tried swtiching back to stable in the desktop app but no good all my boards were gone there too as that layout resembles the old mailbird stable version.

So now I need to go back again and start recreating boards!!!! But I don’t want to waste my time only to get blown out again. What do I do?

a) Should I recreate my boards in the Beta version and wait until the sync comes up? But you ahve to guarantee that bringing the sync back up will not cause my new boards to disappear.
b) Should I recreate my boars in the stable version, and pretty much forget about using Beta until you have deployed the board syncing mechanism (but in this case Stable will have to hold the priority for boards, as I think that would also be the case for @Jerud

Please help I need to start recreating my boards ONCE AGAIN, I cannot operate without those boards it’s too ineffective… my outlines are just too damn big!!

Jorge I have to think the intent is for Stable to always take priority. It is, after all, “stable” – and the version most users have.

AFAIK Board configuration isn’t saved to a specific file anywhere that we can back up, otherwise I would definitely want to back up my Boards before I switch back to Beta when the next update comes out.

I’m curious how Legend will handle Board sync errors if I come back to Beta after being in Stable and there’s conflicting sets of information. I had always assumed that both stable and beta used the same board definition information, but all this above certainly makes it seem like there are different versions of the board configs.

There are and right now (at least for you and I) those two sets are not syncing among themselves, which poses the problem of what will happen when @Jay deploys the new syncing mechanism. therea re going to be people that never switched back to Stable and if STable rewrites Beta once again they will be in the same boat as I am right now.

The only safe way I can think of doing this is that @Jay sets it up so that conflicts are resolved by creating duplicates. You would end up with duplicated sets of boards, but at least it’s easier to check and delete the boards (especially if the resolution adds some naming convention to the duplicated boards so that they are easy to distinguish).

So I have experimentally have my beta and stable versions opened side by side. And I have started creating boards on both. What I create in Stable is reflected in Beta as an empty board named “Board”, and what I create in Beta is reflected in the Stable as an empty board named “Board”.
Folders also are created with a generic name “Folder” and their contained boards follow the pattern described above, but only from Stable to Beta. Folders created in Beta don’t replicate back into Stable. So @Jay I desperately need a sense of direction here. where should I recreate my boards?

@Jay So after playing with 3 windows simultaenously open (Windows Desktop in Beta, Browser version in Beta, and the mailbird version in Stable) I see that the syncrhonization is failing all over the place!!
The 2 versions open in Beta dont have the same boards!

As I said before I had erased every single board in all environments (except Mobile) and created tehm. The ones labeled with the postfix (B) were created in beta version and the ones labeled with postfix (Stbl) were created in the stable version.
What concerns me is that boards I created in the Beta version in wndows desktop just apear as empty “Board” in the beta version in teh browser. So not even the Beta syncs with itself in other instances!

This is MAJOR BLOCKER for me I can’t continue to operate like this.

@Jay So I went back to stable to be able to setup my boards and work. However going back to stable brings me back to the version in the windows desktop that just goes offline continuously. This is no good. I am going to now drop the desktop app and try only to use the browser version, see if that behaves better.

But by now, I can’t use the mobile app because it freezes after a few minutes of use, I can’t use the desktop because of this offfline bug that you had fixed some time ago,

I’m so sorry for all the trouble @Jorge!

I hadn’t realized that the beta version had been so broken. I was using it without issue and I was overwhelmed with work and life things so I was not checking here as much as I should have.

I just released a beta update with the new sync system: https://forum.legendapp.com/d/906-new-sync-system. That should hopefully fix any and all problems you’ve ever had with sync. And one great feature of it is that it saves boards to a file (if you use the desktop app) so you’ll be able to back them up. And of course there should be no more bugs with Board sync 🙂

Now that this big project is finished I will shift to fixing bugs, especially in the mobile app, and improving the email sync. But more importantly, I’ll do a better job of staying active on the forum here and taking care of issues more quickly.

I’m too busy with work at the moment, and I don’t have time to look in detail.
I wanted to switch to beta, the drama.
The number of corresponding item has nothing to do between the stable and the beta (I am unable to trace what is missing, I have more than 10000 items).
The windows application no longer wants to start since the beta update. It crashes consistently.
I hope I haven’t lost anything important during these switches, because I have items with deadlines that I can’t miss.
I’m not doing anything on the beta anymore, it’s over, I’ll update when the beta will go into stable version, and when all the bugs will be stabilized.

christophe No worries, I understand that. I spent a long time on this to try to finally solve all of the sync problems, and tested it extensively with @Rackleberry so that the beta should hopefully be very stable. Absolutely do what’s best for your work and I hope we can get these good fixes in the stable version soon, and all sync bugs will be behind us.

Jay I’m also involved in a very deep project so am more risk-averse than usual. I won’t be switching back to Beta right away but will look for a relatively safe point to make the transition from. Mostly I just need the time to do it “carefully” and protect a set of backups, settings, etc. before flipping the switch. There’s nothing like a big hairy project to really root out the bugs!

Does the new sync address issues between mobile and desktop/web? I fully stopped using mobile because the sync defects were too prevalent to work around. Yesterday I noticed some new items in my outline – actually old zombies that the mobile app resurrected so often that I recognized them. They just popped up in the middle of a block of items which had been uninterrupted the day before. I figured this was a reconciliation of conflicts…but am confused about why it happened while I was in stable. Should that have happened?

Email accounts keep disappearing from the email view. Basically, when I click on an email account, the content does not load. The only way to make them show up again is to remove them from settings, then readd them. All works fine for a couple of days, then they keep disappearing randomly.

One more:
When I click on a message in the Email inbox view, sometimes the email pane keeps loading/reloading in a loop.

Looks like the pane is trying to load the older version of Gmail. I am not clicking/refreshing anything.
