I tried to test the new beta in mobile, but my situation so stands as I described previously: the app doesn’t download the beta version so I am still stuck with stable in mobile.

Let me describe it again
Starting from scratch I delete the app from my phone. I reinstal it (seeing the same as @Jerud in the store I have to search for moo.do to find it, otherwise it’s pages and pushes of games).
At that point I am in stable

I open one of my password protected documents (not even the biggest, just my personal document).
I then go to About Legend to click on the beta button.
At that point the app asks me to restart audi I confirm.
App is now stuck trying to load again.

At that point after waiting several minutes, I restart it only to get stuck in the same place. Only way out is uninstall and go back to stable.
It seems to me that is trying to load my documents using the beta version that corresponds to June, but since that one is not the recent one it’s unable to load. I suspect it would first load with the old beta and then realize there is an update and download the new beta, but since it gets stuck ugh loading the document with the old version, it never gets to the point of being able to download the most recent beta.

I will try again without having any of my encrypted documents open. That would leave it icky with the tiniest of documents open. Se is that makes any difference
BTW Google signing continues to not work, I have to sign in with my alternate email.

Sorry to say that even with no big documents open the situation is the same, as soon as I activate the beta it gets stuck loading documents, and this time only the tiniest of documents were open. I let it rip for 10 minutes or so and still stuck.

Unless you are able to download the app with the latest beta already activated, I don’t think it will let me try it.

So in the browser version on mobile the update to the latest beta does succeed. I will try it out and provide feedback

Loading takes about 24 seconds.

Editing text on browser version on my phone is still a problem
Once you touch on an item to edit or at some text out tenders text lines our of alignment.

This version brought back many many of my boards that I had before this ordeal started 4 months ago. Those were no longer visible in my laptop neither on stable nor in beta, but are now here

I started touching on each board and they were all empty, except mobile pane which looked all right, until I got to an old board that was called outlines which simply had each document open in each pane, and there it died.

I was only able to see 3 boards that looked ok. The mobile board and another 2 that were created in the beta browser in my laptop, all the other boards are empty. It’s unable to use any of the boards that I had recreated in stable when I lost all my boards

andrew Thanks for the report! I’m testing on a copy of your data and I’m seeing a combination of two issues:

Malformed dates are causing crashes sometimes, especially in calendar panes
Some boards got stuck partially migrated from an older version. I’m working on fixing that now, which I think is the source of everyone’s board issues. I’ll try to get an update out tomorrow.

Jay On the latest beta version, now all my boards are empty and I have a number of empty boards titled “Board”. Should I just be deleting all my boards and start from scratch at this point? Or will they somehow be recovered? If I switch back to Stable, some of the boards are intact.

andrew The latest update should fix that. Update then sign out and back in, and I think many of the boards should come back. I did my last round of testing and fixing using your data copied (encrypted) to my test account. I was able to reproduce all the issues you reported and the latest version fixes them in my test account. I do see two boards with missing names (it defaults to displaying as “Board” if there’s no name) and some boards don’t have panes. But they seem mostly intact.

@Jorge I think the latest update should fix (or at least significantly improve) the loading and crashing issues. If you uninstall and reinstall the app from the app store, it would download the latest beta, so I don’t think that’s the issue. But on first login it would take a long time to load your boards - they’re actually even bigger than the documents. That’s the old board format which was causing the “Write_Too_Large” sync errors in the stable version - I’m leaving those there for now so that stable still works. Once we get this version stabilized and released to stable, I’ll have it clear out the old data after it’s migrated so your initial signin would be faster.

When it says “Loading documents…” it is loading your user account data which includes your settings, boards, and list of documents. Then once that’s done, it displays the names of the documents and starts downloading document data. So if it’s getting stuck before you see a list of documents, it’s still trying to download your account data. It is quite large so it may take a while if you’re not on fast wifi. That said though - I think this update should speed it up a bit and not get stuck.

Jay I updated and signed out/in. It seems to be working better now when adding and editing new boards, but my boards did not come back. About half my boards retained their name but are empty and the other half are just called “Board” and are empty.

The initial loading is definetely much faster. Now it gets to asking my primary password very fast and it opens unencrypted documents almost immediately.

However the version after the reinstal continues to be stable from June. When I enable the beta same thing.. It gets stuck at loading documents….

It never gets to showing my list of documents.

I tried both with opening my big encrypted documents before enabling beta and without opening my encrypted documents with the same result. And I have 300 Mbps download speed.
So definetely a big improvement in speed but still cannot activate the beta to try it out.

If I delete my boards… Would that make it work?

andrew Ok, well it’s good to hear that it’s working better now at least 🙂.

I found some boards in your account which had the new pane format in a weird empty state from a previous bugged version so I cleared them out in the database. So if you sign out and back in again, about 5 of your boards should revert to how they are in stable. And the next update will include a migration to fix that for everyone else. Unfortunately some of the others are empty/unnamed so you’ll need to delete or recreate them. I’m very sorry about that.

Jay OK some of my boards just came back. I will delete the rest.

Found a bug perhaps tangentially related to this. Opening an item in a new pane (or opening an item in a new outline pane) is causing an application error (it was reported) and resulting in a blank white “pane” (or really just an empty space, no toolbar, no contents, nothing).

Jorge @Jay I’m getting this same thing on Android. The version is from June 11 and Beta is off. If I enable Beta, it restarts, I try to sign in and it gets stuck on Loading documents…

Ok I think the loading failure may be fixed in the latest version @Jorge @andrew. And the “open item in new pane” bug is fixed too.

I am in the process of documenting the definition of all my boards. Wish there was a quick way to export pane definitions to a text file. Since the list of boards is different in every instance I have (mobile browser in beta, desktop browser in beta, desktop browser on stable, desktop app on stable). It’s taking me a while.

I intend to delete all my boards entirely and see if mobile app in beta will load. I then intend to recreate all these boards in beta in browser and see if they take.

If that doesn’t work, I intend to just creates s brand new account and restore everything from backup and recreate every board manually.

I can no longer afford to continue waiting for s migration path from stable to work. The risk of that I won’t be able to operate from stable any more. I tried creating different groups of boards for stable and beta but so far it hasn’t worked (probably because of bugs you have already fixed) so my hope is that some sort of reset level will get me back on some sort of productive use.

For me, Android mobile still hangs on Loading Documents after switching to Beta and signing in again.

Jorge andrew Well that was a silly one. The mobile loading problem wasn’t even a sync problem, the loading screen was just not showing the user encryption password prompt. So I believe the mobile app should work now.

Jorge In the latest update the mobile app should load now so a full reset should not be necessary. I think board sync is working correctly now, but having separate boards seems like a good idea to be extra safe.

So I believe you should be good to go now without needing to do any clearing. But if you want to:

Your boards are quite full of the too-verbose old collapsed state (which is much more streamlined now). You could clear that out by just toggling collapse all in each pane. I suggest waiting a little bit to make sure that beta is working ok before you clear out boards. Once beta is feeling good for you, you could recreate your boards which would delete the old pane definitions and clear the collapsed state for good, which should improve your load time too.

As for exporting pane definitions, that’s a great idea. It would be great to be able to export and re-import that. The beta version of the desktop app saves board data to a file so you can have a backup of it, but it does not pick up changes in the file yet.

Jay yay. Finally was able to complete login in the mobile beta.

Opened in 9 seconds. That is great!!!!!

Don’t know if this has anything to do with the fact that I had kept clearing data in mobile, then restarting and trying to switch to beta, but…

On desktop, I now have 17 additional empty boards titled “Board” spread throughout my list of boards. I had previously deleted all old empty boards and created new boards, which are all still there.

I am going to now delete those 17 empty boards and see if they come back. Now that mobile is working, I am only using beta (win desktop and Android mobile).

Edit: I deleted them all and they all came back. Also there are 3 outline panes on my mobile board that I delete and then they come back, repeatedly, after running the mobile app.

How long was your load time in mobile stable before? And how does the load time compare between beta/stable on the desktop/web version?

The beta version of the desktop app (https://github.com/MooDoApp/MooDoApp.github.io/releases/tag/v2.1.0) should load a fair bit faster than the web version because it saves/loads with files instead of with web technologies. And I plan to make a similar change to the mobile app once all of this stabilizes, to make it load faster too.
