Drag/drop issues

When dragging an item around it can be very difficult to see the “destination line” and text beneath it. Determining the vertical position can be nearly impossible in some situations.

Perhaps the opacity of the “floating selection” can be added to the Options/Display Settings/Colors as something that can be changed by the user per app?

I had lumped it in with bugs all related to drag/drop since I was hoping they could all get fixed at once.

Things like this I have a hard time categorizing…it’s not exactly a “bug” since the app isn’t doing something wrong or unexpected. But it’s also not a request for a new functionality. The app is already doing the right thing…just not as well as it could.

Agreed about the difficulty categoring it…..it seems more like a feature request/enhancement.

Given an entry that is a parent with a few children with extra levels
When you are dragging an entry from one pane to the next
Then a preview of the item is drawn and moves with the cursor. This preview is too BIG and covers too much of the space that you want to see where it is going to be inserted, especially when dealing with boards with narrow panes. It just gets in the way of being able to select the exact position of insertion because it covers almost completely the blue line of insertion.

I don’t understand what is the need of previewing what you are dragging as you just picked it. Its not that people have mosquito memory and cannot remember what is it that they just picked to move/copy/link/mirror elsewhere. I think it’s better just to show the blue line of insertion, and if somebody really wants some sort of reminder of what it is they are dragging then at most a oneliner that shows the top item, drawn above the cursor so that it doesn’t cover the blue insertion line.

I believe these issues are one and the same. I had listed it as a bug, and you guys had listed as a borderline feature / bug. So merged them to keep a single topic. @Jerud @SamMarrocco so you can upvote this.

I like your suggestion of trimming the preview down to a single item’s worth of information, add ... or similar to indicate if there are more items. Even my memory is better than a mosquito’s.

The preview still needs to be shifted down a little though so the entire blue insertion line remains visible, though.

I changed this in the latest update to show only one line and display below and to the right of the cursor. Is that better?

Looking great so far! Non-rigorous testing looks good so far, we’ll see if I can find any edge cases.

I recently realized that “all day” calendar events can’t be rescheduled by drag/drop. Trying to put them in a different days’s “all day” area doesn’t stick, and dragging them into the hourly area of a different day leaves behind a big, day-long event block that hangs around until you horizontal-scroll the Pane or switch away/back. Calendar bugs are actually one of my more numerous categories, maybe that’d be a good area to get into next.

The one drag/drop behavior that most bothers me is auto-expanding on drop/paste as @LauraH just posted – my comments at that thread.
